The Beginnings of a Long-Held Dream…
The woman who appraised the property now known as Sky Ranch was a veteran appraiser of Montana ranches, generally hundreds of acres, if not thousands. She was from Bozeman, and I wondered how she got the nod to drive 200 miles to do an appraisal of a 70-acre ranch at Rock Creek. When she submitted the appraisal she attached a note addressed to me personally. “This property is special. Take good care of it.”
I suspected that she didn’t normally write notes to prospective buyers, but her note affirmed what I had felt when I first saw the place. It was special and in need of care. The woods were set on a fire ready to happen. The natural grasses had gone to the weeds and the elk had gone, too. The road was a hairpin turn up the hill and then it turned into two deep ruts. The only traction on the corner was the exposed tree roots. Then, there was the house that seemed more inhabited by the dogs than their people and the indoor 11 ½ foot diving pool that split the home in half.
That was the condition of Sky Ranch five years ago. I’m fond of saying that I rescued the property. It has been a labor of love and a journey toward a dream that someday I would have a place where people can come and heal. To care about this is to know and appreciate the special qualities of a retreat center and the need in us all to retreat, every now and again, for our understanding, our health and healing and our happiness.”
Welcome one and all to Sky Ranch.
Dr. Susan Rangitsch, owner, and your host.
"Sky Ranch offered the perfect accommodations for our family, but it wasn’t the amazing facility that made the trip most memorable. It was the wonderful hospitality offered by Chris and Susan. We came as strangers and left as friends. We could not have asked for more and will always recall fondly the special time out family spent at Sky Ranch. It will be the standards against which others are measured."
